Hurricane Trudy has strengthened into a Category 1 storm over the Pacific, EL PAÍS reported on Thursday, October 15, 2026. The system intensified from a tropical storm, and Mexican forecasters expect it to keep building.
According to La Jornada, Mexico's national meteorological service (SMN) estimated that Trudy could rise to Category 2 later the same afternoon. The newspaper described the storm's intensification as rapid.
Trudy is not the only weather system in play. El Financiero reported that rain across Mexico is being driven by three factors at once — Trudy, another storm named Simón, and cold front number 2 — and that some states will be hit harder than others. Meteored México said the combination of polar-Arctic air and Hurricane Trudy would bring heavy rainfall, severe winds and a sharp drop in temperatures on Thursday.
